s-elle-na
hey guys! its august...and i'm back! well, i'm officially back anyway. i thought i'd start things off with a gorgeous spread from elle mexico. of course its the young inguenue selena gomez. seeing as how i'm not her target demographic, i am not extremely familiar with her actual work. what i do know is that she seems like a poised, humble and hardworking beauty. last month, i was able to watch the movie "beezus and ramona" based on my childhood favorite book and she played the title role (beatrice beezus quimby). i thought she did an amazing job and thoroughly enjoyed the show. she appears to be a force to be reckoned with...and i'm not even going to mention whats his name. i think that would take away from her success as an individual ( it also makes me question her choice in men but i guess we all have our faults, haha).

video voyeur-Raphael Saadiq - Good Man
in love with the seventies retro vibe of this video. the style and ambiance is just to die for. yaya (of america's next top model fame) brings the crazy beauty quite well. and the song itself just takes you back. very raphael! the only thing is...beware! when yaya hits her head on the bathroom sink...well, its just too difficult for me to watch. if you are squeamish like me, LOOK AWAY(around the 1:45 mark)!

american boy
what'chuknow 'bout roy lichtenstein? this guy is one of the talented american artists as well as one of my faves. as you can see from the piece above, pop art is his thing. recently, i watched a segment about him on a cbs morning show. i was thrilled to hear what a happy person he was. none of that tortured soul business. refreshing, isn't it?! besos jenna pearle*

that 70's show
the other day we explored the perfection of cher's style in the 60's and 70's. i gave you a gorgeous black and whit photo of the legend to feast your eyes on. in the meantime, i've found an image that i'm sure you'll love. this is a candid of cher, sonny and twiggy looking so mod. the colors, line and patterns are to die for.

turning back time-Cher
did you SEE cher in the sixties and seventies?!! the epitome of style (for that particular era). that gorgeous ebony bone straight hair, outrageous bohemian outfits and unique facial features...cher was certainly a contender for THE it girl during that funky time. if eclectic bohemian love child is right up your personal style ally, then look no further than the talented, beautiful CHERilyn.

a timely fashion

these photos both evoke a sense of time that was important to fashion. the first one is a pic of a couple of kardashians with the boyfriend, scott. it appears to be at a fashion show but somehow it drips of old hollywood glamour. they certainly look hot. the other image is beautiful, too. blake lively reminds me of a sexy seventies bombshell after a fun night out. loves it!!!

posh brown styling-indie queen

style profile
client:
elle jacobs
background:
elle is an up and coming actress who has had some success in quite a few indie films (one of which is being honored at the sundance film festival). Originally from the suburbs of Florida, this twenty-two year old now resides in los angeles. elle previously had no real interest in fashion or shopping. instead, she spends her free time listening to undergound retro bands and going to concerts. she is currently dating a drummer from an alternative band. elle is playing with the idea of having her own girl band some day. ms. jacobs is very particular about her image and fears looking like her worst nightmare, a pop tart.
elle is about 5'7, somewhat curvy frame although still fairly slender. she has reddish auburn hair and almost kelly green eyes.
challenge:
elle is looking to create a unique signature look. she is attempting to build her brand and needs the right that will be memorable and flattering. her aim is to garner more publicity (create a buzz) so that she can obtain more roles and hopefully beauty campaigns. elle is also looking to create an accessory line of some sort in the future. upcoming events: paparazzi shots (regular outfit), press junkets for new movie, dress for Indie Spirit Awards.
solution:
posh brown styling will create a signature look based on elle's musical taste and movie roles. retro 60/70's indie queen. dye auburn hair jet black (mahogany brown if black is too much for her) and keep the romantic waves, part down the middle. wardrobe updates: short colorful sheath dresses (fuschias, emerald green, tomato reds ect), strapless dresses. cigarette pants and jeans (highwaisted), cute tops. vintage jewelry (one of a kind pieces), cutesy flats and kitten heels, t-strap mary jane pumps.
outcome:
dressed for success

sweet thang

i remember this album cover vividly in the living room of my old brooklyn apartment in front of the wall unit that held the record player/eight track. chaka khan has been doing it big for years, decades! here we definitely have a candidate for "tired of toning it down." chaka's talent and voice is undeniable. this red ensemble makes her look vibrant and happy, as does that big ol' grin.

homemade: easy breezy tee

this is just the image i was searching for: kristen stewart as joan jett in "runaways." this is the t-shirt i was telling you about. all she appeared to do was cut out the letters on a piece of cardboard, place it on the tee and spray paint inside and around. as you can see, she also added her safety pins for good measure. i can do this! or is this one of those things that look easy breezy but are not so simple? anyway, just thought i would share...

cherry bombs

"hello daddy, hello mom...i'm your ch ch ch ch cherry bomb!"

"hello world...i'm your WILD GIRL!"

i finally got a chance to see the movie "runaways." it was quite a difficult task getting to see this movie. for one, this nationwide opening didn't really happen. i live in nyc and discovered it was playing at only two small theatres. speaking of one, i noticed that like me almost everyone who was watching the film came alone. hmmm. so, i admit i missed the first five minutes or so of it. fortunately, i was determined to see it so i entered the already rolling biopic.
anyway, i enjoyed this film even though it was jagged and short on details. i was surprised that the movie focused on cherie currie's perspective more than any of the other girls. actually, the other band members beside cherie and joan were excluded for the most part. they were present but not explored in the least. however, i think i remember hearing that the movie was based on cherie currie's biography. that said, dakota fanning did a fabulous job; no surprise there. what was different is that she was tackling more adult information although she was playing a character around her age. i found her convincing, nonetheless.

as for kristen stewart's portrayal of joan jett...bravo. i'm not sure if stewart is a phenomenal actress or if she just naturally embodies the spirit of jett. her swagger and bad ass but sensitive demeanor kept me glued to the screen. although i'm straight, it was easy to identify and become attracted to the rock n roll queen. as far as i'm concerned, kristen had that magnetic appeal that the director was trying to coach out of dakota. either way, both girls did a magnificent job.
so anyway, on to more important topics...clothes and costumes. oh yeah, and hair. this movie did not disappoint. platform boot rocking cherie was the sexy one with lingerie and leather. joan was true blue rock n' roll with tight tees spraypainted with the names of rock legends (great idea for diy), spectacular leather jackets and tight jeans. one of the girls wore a fantastic seventies flip while lita ford sported the marcia brady long locks. to sum up, the girls looked good. btw, i did not know that lita ford was even a member of the runaways. learn something new everyday.
i am glad that i took the time out to see this film. it left me wanting more, especially of joan jett. would love to hear more about her life in the future.

revolutionary road

back in my high school heyday, i was quite the revolutionary. although i've calmed down considerably, its still in my blood. this pic reminded me of that struggle. this is the breathtaking black panther kathleen cleaver. in this image, we not only get a glimpse of her beauty, but also her cool confidence and assertive attitude.
