my so called life

as you already know, my internet/computer situation has been a mess.  that doesn't mean, however, that i was not keeping busy.  in fact, my schedule was filled to capacity with interesting adventures.  i took on an internship with a french designer who opened a boutique on the east side of manhattan.  unfortunately, it became obvious that wasn't the right situation for me and i left after a week.  also, i think i mentioned before that i've been taking courses at the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology.  this past fall semester was the most classes to date.  one of them was called "wardrobe for television, film and theatre."  it would be a dream come true to have an opportunity to be a costume designer/stylist on great shows like gossip girl, gilmore girls or general hospital.
i also sharpened my skills with another image consulting course and a class called "styling for the celebrity image."  total bliss! last but not least was a course called "fashion in film & media."  my teacher was like a facsimile of liza minelli.  she had the look, the voice, the same kookiness.  !muy interesante!  anyway, above is my final project for the image consulting course.  my assignment was to have my partner from class act as my client and update her current look.  claudia was a bit conservative working in a corporate environment but had a creative flame inside of her.  she wanted to step her game up in terms of her casual outfits and add a bit of effortless sexy.  obviously, you're not hearing the actual presentation but still...what do you think?  was i successful?

posh brown styling-indie queen

style profile

client:
elle jacobs

background:
elle is an up and coming actress who has had some success in quite a few indie films (one of which is being honored at the sundance film festival). Originally from the suburbs of Florida, this twenty-two year old now resides in los angeles. elle previously had no real interest in fashion or shopping. instead, she spends her free time listening to undergound retro bands and going to concerts. she is currently dating a drummer from an alternative band. elle is playing with the idea of having her own girl band some day. ms. jacobs is very particular about her image and fears looking like her worst nightmare, a pop tart.

elle is about 5'7, somewhat curvy frame although still fairly slender. she has reddish auburn hair and almost kelly green eyes.

challenge:
elle is looking to create a unique signature look. she is attempting to build her brand and needs the right that will be memorable and flattering. her aim is to garner more publicity (create a buzz) so that she can obtain more roles and hopefully beauty campaigns. elle is also looking to create an accessory line of some sort in the future. upcoming events: paparazzi shots (regular outfit), press junkets for new movie, dress for Indie Spirit Awards.

solution:
posh brown styling will create a signature look based on elle's musical taste and movie roles. retro 60/70's indie queen. dye auburn hair jet black (mahogany brown if black is too much for her) and keep the romantic waves, part down the middle. wardrobe updates: short colorful sheath dresses (fuschias, emerald green, tomato reds ect), strapless dresses. cigarette pants and jeans (highwaisted), cute tops. vintage jewelry (one of a kind pieces), cutesy flats and kitten heels, t-strap mary jane pumps.
outcome:
dressed for success

homemade: easy breezy tee

this is just the image i was searching for: kristen stewart as joan jett in "runaways." this is the t-shirt i was telling you about. all she appeared to do was cut out the letters on a piece of cardboard, place it on the tee and spray paint inside and around. as you can see, she also added her safety pins for good measure. i can do this! or is this one of those things that look easy breezy but are not so simple? anyway, just thought i would share...

homemade-do it yourself bad girl jean

revamped an old idea and thought i would share my knowledge with the world. well, ok, i'll just share with you. sometimes, i get crazy with the scissors and make sexy slices all over my jeans. Then winter and reality hit and i get cold...so, my solution: fill in the blanks. for regular, practical days, i simply add tights (colored and/or patterned tights if i'm feeling dangerous). when its time to reveal my vampy, tough chick nite look, i wear my lace or fishnet stockings under my skinny jean. if you really like the look, commit to it and sew your choice of lace into the random holes in your jeans.

btw, when you must wear your fishnets although the temperature is colder than a chicago winter night, wear a pair of stockings underneath your hooker hosiery. if its really frigid, why not wear the tights with the fishies? great tips to use on new years eve, lovelies.

homemade...adorn me!

in the past, i was a do it yourself queen. give me some scissors, some bleach, some beads and watch me go. if i could sew, oh, i would be dangerous. lately, i have slacked off, opting to just purchase my look instead of creating it. my outfits have grown much more tame, needless to say. but im back, guys. and this time, i will be adorning girls' best friend. no, not diamonds. shoes (more specifically, heels).

i absolutely hate looking like everyone else. originality is my sister from another mister. so, when i read my fave magazine and saw what they were doing to embellish and individualize heels, i was elated. it also helped me to brainstorm a few ideas of my own. lucky for you, im here to share...

fishnet foolery
grab a pair of fishnets (or any hose) in a color that doesn't clash with your heels. cut them off at the knees or a little lower (for a more conservative look) up until before the toesies. then, my dears, you stick your toes in just like normal and then twist the two straps that you remain with around your foot and up the ankle as if they were strappy sandals. twist and knot creating a cute bow. put your shoes on and voila! mission complete!

just ribbon!
glue a wired ribbon in a complimentary color to the bottom of your best heels (works best on round toe shoes). then, tie your prettiest bow. and you're done!

adorn me
as of late, many celebrities have been forced to rock the ankle bracelet and have turned it into a major accessory. in addition, fashion phenoms have adorned every inch of their bodies with multiple necklaces, bracelets and even tattoos. so in light of this craze, i think it is only fitting to accessorize the hell out of your ankles as well. they say that (for many) it is the slimmest part of the body. so go out and buy multiple anklets at claire's or one of those cheapie stores. two or three of each would work best. then, simply layer the look with your sexiest heels.

when i wear high heels i have a great vocabulary and speak in paragraphs. i'm more eloquent. i plan to wear them more often. *meg ryan

keep struttin', my lovelies! xoxo jenna pearle
