hey guys!  its august...and i'm back!  well, i'm officially back anyway.  i thought i'd start things off with a gorgeous spread from elle mexico.  of course its the young inguenue selena gomez.  seeing as how i'm not her target demographic, i am not extremely familiar with her actual work.  what i do know is that she seems like a poised, humble and hardworking beauty.  last month, i was able to watch the movie "beezus and ramona" based on my childhood favorite book and she played the title role (beatrice beezus quimby).  i thought she did an amazing job and thoroughly enjoyed the show.  she appears to be a force to be reckoned with...and i'm not even going to mention whats his name.  i think that would take away from her success as an individual ( it also makes me question her choice in men but i guess we all have our faults, haha).

its been quite a while since i've been inspired by a man and his wardrobe.  but then came bruno mars.  his retro yet relaxed look has taken the entertainment world by storm.  the elvis do and 50's doo wop sense of style has definitely won me (and not to mention a million others) over.  of course, those boyish good looks, truckload of talent and never ending charm don't hurt.  safe to say there are a number of ladies who would  gladly catch a grenade for him.  wanna rock the retro look bruno style (ladies, you too!)?  read on...

hi guys!  i took a bit of a break but...the bitch is back!!!  that said, there are so many things i've been meaning to share with you.  first off, however, is the amy winehouse collection from amy and fred perry.  i've always thought ms. winehouse was a star when it came to choosing a signature look that best fit her brand.  how original, how retro (a paradox, i know)!  although the pieces i saw didn't meet my high expectations for a winehouse line, there were still great items to work with.  above are a few of the articles i liked most.  what do you guys think of it??  can't wait for more music from this soulful one.

i came across a phenomenal article on msn about how to feel and therefore be a stunner.  the method: the power of thoughts.  i included the article here (10 ways to think yourself beautiful) but since it was difficult to navigate, i thought i would just paraphrase for your convenience.  let me know what you think!

a different "different world"/ 2011 class reunion

when i was a kid, thursday nights use to be my favorite.  at eight, it was 'the cosby show.'  right after, there was the show that would change my life, "a different world."  for those of you who aren't familiar, "a different world" was a spin-off of the cosby show about life at a historically black college/university.  from day one, i was hooked.   i knew from scene one, i had to make my way to one of these hbcus (abbreviation)......and that was one promise i fulfilled.  this show was my first taste of what college life was really like:  young adults navigating their way through becoming responsible full-fledged grown ups. 

besides the captivating storylines, one of the other main reasons i tuned in was to see what each character would be wearing.  there was whitley gilbert, the upper crust southern princess unwilling to sacrifice the good life.  then there was freddie brooks, the free-spirit flower child down with the revolution and up for deep meditation.  last but not least, there was lena james.  lena was the fly, urban griot fresh out the hood.  these characters let their costumes tell their unique story.  so, what i decided to do was recreate their fabulous style with a 2011 edge.  so, for the "different world" class reunion, i present:

although i haven't been able to truly get into the "mad men phenomenon, i must admit that christina hendricks' character, joan hollaway, has me smitten.  the style, the red hair, the self assured attitude...i love it!  she just might entice me to give "mad men" another try.  besos jenna pearle*

you can't even imagine how happy i am to be back.  it's ben a while (cue staind song).  i'm ready to get passionista place back on the block.  i got the computer back but i am tethered to one spot for the internet(not wireless at the moment).  anyhow, lets just take advantage of the time we have. 
recently, i heard the news about ms. aretha franklin's successful surgery and now her battle with pancreatic cancer.  i want to wish her well.  i truly hope that she has a speedy recovery.  we need her in our lives.  after all, this is the queen of soul we're talking about here.  the ORIGINAL ri-ri.  show some R-E-S-P-E-C-T!

run dmc, the godfathers of rap.  it goes without saying we owe these pioneers so much for helping to bring hip hop music/culture into the mainstream.  they are also credited with showing that rap could be infused with any genre successfully(specifically rock).  i know you remember their hit with aerosmith, "walk this way."  for me and many others, run dmc are considered fashion icons.  all black everything (usually in leather), adidas with huge laces, gigantic gazelle glasses, heavy rope gold chains, bucket kangols and loads of badass attitude...what more could an impressionable lil' hip-hop loving girl in the 80s ask for?  unfortunately, during the earlier part of the decade, we lost the legendary dj, jam master jay.  despite that, these rap rebels remain tough as leather and in our nostalgic hearts forever. here are some essentials you'll need in your wardrobe in order to be down with the kings of queens.  keep an eye out for great accessories and clothing that meets the kings' criteria at http://theposhbrownboutique.bigcartel.com/

the other day we explored the perfection of cher's style in the 60's and 70's. i gave you a gorgeous black and whit photo of the legend to feast your eyes on. in the meantime, i've found an image that i'm sure you'll love. this is a candid of cher, sonny and twiggy looking so mod. the colors, line and patterns are to die for.

how breathtaking is this spread?!  the color, shape and fit of the clothing is so sophisticated and feminine, i can't imagine anyone not being able to appreciate them.  doesn't this inspire you to get a martini, a good book and sit crossed legs in the parlor...
