i call foul (for angelea preston)

well, i just finished watching the season finale of all star version of america's next top model.  it was going great with the three remaining contestants competing and angelea, the plucky underdog you can't help rooting for,was doing extremely well.  commercial break....and then, tyra's announcing that angelea was eliminated without further explanation.  it becomes obvious that this whole judging scene has been recreated to choose a new winner.  whomp, whomp!  technically, lisa the loony one won.  however, angelea is the true winner (especially in my eyes).  she deserved to win and spreading the good news too early doesn't seem like a good enough reason to be dqed (the rumor is she posted info up on her facebook before taping).  tyra, i call foul!!

black n white/ the hiatus

hola lovelies!  hope your summer is going well.  i don't know about where you are but here in the city there's plenty to do: movies in the park, summer concerts, bbqs, picnics ect.  make sure you take advantage of whatevers happening (in my al roker voice) in your neck of the woods.  passionista place should be back in full swing by the first week of august.  in the meantime, i thought i would give you some much needed black and white photos of some beauties such as tika, danielle (a la antm alum), naomi campbell (no intro needed) and natasha ndlovu.  there should be a few more posts coming your way this week so don't fret.  once again, have a great summer.   besos jenna pearle*

in love with the seventies retro vibe of this video.  the style  and ambiance is just to die for.  yaya (of america's next top model fame) brings the crazy beauty quite well.  and the song itself just takes you back.  very raphael!  the only thing is...beware!  when yaya hits her head on the bathroom sink...well, its just too difficult for me to watch.  if you are squeamish like me, LOOK AWAY(around the 1:45 mark)!

i've been having a hard time keeping up with tyra's america's next top model this season.  however, i must say that ms. banks has certainly been making some bankable models each and every season.  at the very least, she has brought some interesting faces to the forefront (especially for women of color) and for that i'm happy.  fatima (pictured at the bottom) is gorgeous and can be seen just about everywhere.   the beautiful bianca was a favorite of mine on the show (queens stand up!) and i get to see her every once in a while, too.  then there's mercedes (in the middle)!  i hadn't seen her in a while but judging from the pic she is just as beautiful as ever and i'm sure she's doing well.  there have been so many talented ladies, its hard to choose a favorite.  but those who i remember fondly include:aminat, jael, bree, jade, tocarra and eva the diva.  who has been your favorite contestant so far?

this combines some of my favorite things: frida kahlo, fashion and models.  these beautiful young ladies are none other than jaslene (former winner of antm) and victoria brita.  frida kahlo has always been a style icon (well, an icon in all respects) and i think these gals do her and her artwork justice.  wouldn't you agree?

2010 mtv video awards...just my thoughts, man

i got rid of my cable but because i love you so, i went visiting just so that i could watch and report back. unfortunately, i wasn't all that impressed. but here are a few thoughts as well as a few highligt images...

• gaga looked great and was so gracious. i am a big fan of her devotion to the "outsiders." some of her outfits were hits (my favorite is pictured above). big winner of the night!


• taylor swift is really working my last nerve. please, PLEASE, stop playing the victim and being so passive agressive. everyone comes across a jerk (sorry kanye) every once in a while. kanye did you a HUGE favor by distinguishing you from the rest of the pop/country blonde singers out there. write him a thank you note instead of a self-righteous boring song. next!
  
  
• drake finally put on a show in his performance. i've seem him at some concerts and wasn't impressed with his boring outfits and simple standing or walking around the stage. great improvement, sir. keep it up!


• rihanna put a different spin on her usual look. her different spin was very similar to madonna's like a virgin perfomance in the 80's. (was that the point?) her hair and outfit had a very unfinished look to it. if that was the goal then it was successful.
  
• katy perry, rihanna and nicki minaj look like they have a great time and i want to fill out an application to join in.


• never heard of florence but i LOVED the perfomance and the song.




• jared leto looks just as sexy as he did on "my so-called life" these days. besides lady gaga and eminem, he's the only one i even recall getting an award.


• while we're on the topic, why did eminem get SO many awards??? i don't get it!
• i adore sofia vergara (gorgeous and hilarious).


• eva the diva (marcille) is so gorgeous here. i feel the same about ashley greene. best dressed of the night, along with victoria justice (no clue who she is).


• kanye killed it! thats what i would like to say but i found his performance mildly entertaining. maybe my hopes were too high. the red ensemble was quite impressive, however.

another top model alumni...fo. boy, was she cute! check the freckles! what i liked about her besides her beauty was her racial ambiguity. she was highly upset when ms. tyra cut her hair but she really needs to thank her. fo gets a lot of work because i see her EVERYWHERE!

its our anniversary

happy anniversary!!!!

it's been a whole year since i began my precious passionista place blog. although i didn't become consistent with it until a few months later, this was the beginning of something special (at least to me). how ironic that my first post was about who won america's next top model (and who i THOUGHT should win) and a year later tyra again has decided the fate of some lucky pretty girl. of course, this season i did not see many episodes but up top is the winner, krista white. congrats, krista! but anyway, back to me. thank you all for fanning me and allowing me to share a piece of my world with you all. got myself a car to celebrate (not exactly true...got a car today with no relation to this blog, pure coincedence).

you could have been any where else in the world, but you're here with me...and i appreciate that.

here is america's past top model and current media mogul, ms. tyra banks. although she's not perfect (and who is?), i am proud of what she's accomplished. i'm not just talking about the money, prestige and broken records. i am more impressed with how she had a message of empowerment for young women (esp. of color) and followed through on delivering it to the masses. kudos, ms. banks...you are still in the running to becoming one of the fantastic positive role models in the business. thank you for the opportunity, xoxo jenna pearle

i know that i'm suppose to be ga-ga (pun intended, sorry) over joan jett with the runaway movie coming out and all. and i do love joan and her bad girl steez...just as much as she loves rock n roll. however, i can't help but love debbie harry more. you may have guessed that from the constant posts with ms. harry as the subject. her style was tough but feminine. her face was america's next top model worthy (i know you'd sacrifice your pinky toe for those cheekbones and pouty mouth). while harry was queen of the punk era, she was not afraid to branch out to lesser known genres like rap (at the time).

with the new movie coming out soon (or maybe it came out yesterday?), i am sure to devote a post to those rocking runaways. today, i'm pleased to inform you, is dedicated to THE blondie, debby harry! bow down, bitches!!!!
