tommy hilfiger's line is so on point this season.  the clothes are...magnificent!  the preppy, laidback, layered look reminiscent of a wes anderson film (specifically 'the royal tenenbaums') is quite impressive.  i am especially pleased with the 2010 Fall Campaign Ad.  tommy captures fall and its colorful clothing so perfectly.  i suppose i could go on gushing but i think you get the point...go ahead and enjoy the shots above...

down with the kings of queens-run dmc

 

run dmc, the godfathers of rap.  it goes without saying we owe these pioneers so much for helping to bring hip hop music/culture into the mainstream.  they are also credited with showing that rap could be infused with any genre successfully(specifically rock).  i know you remember their hit with aerosmith, "walk this way."  for me and many others, run dmc are considered fashion icons.  all black everything (usually in leather), adidas with huge laces, gigantic gazelle glasses, heavy rope gold chains, bucket kangols and loads of badass attitude...what more could an impressionable lil' hip-hop loving girl in the 80s ask for?  unfortunately, during the earlier part of the decade, we lost the legendary dj, jam master jay.  despite that, these rap rebels remain tough as leather and in our nostalgic hearts forever. here are some essentials you'll need in your wardrobe in order to be down with the kings of queens.  keep an eye out for great accessories and clothing that meets the kings' criteria at http://theposhbrownboutique.bigcartel.com/

earlier in the month, i informed you how hot lace was going to be this coming season. well, what better way to incorporate this into your outfit than with your hosiery.  SEXY, RITE?!!!  this is the case especially when paired with heels.  fishnets, tights and lacy hose are a staple in my wardrobe but even moreso this year (the year of the dress).    you do the same!

i was perusing the fashion bomb daily blog yesterday and came across their bombshell of the day, demetria lucas.  i've already linked you to her own blog in the right aesthetic post.  anyway, when asked about her sassy personal style, demetria answered "most days, i ask myself 'what would diahann carroll do if she were influenced by lauryn hill and circa '00 andre 3000..."  what a fantastic answer!  that got me to thinking if i had to narrow it down to 3 people who's assistance i would appreciate when i'm getting dressed, who would it be?  i gave it some thought today and came up with this. i think my look is a mix of joan jett and blair waldorf if they were b-girls from brooklyn.  it was a pretty difficult process having to narrow it down to just three people.  however, when its done, i think it can make your what to wear dilemma a bit easier.  you have your fairy fashion godmothers and fathers whispering advice into your ear.  so, what do you think of my choices and who would be a part of your fashion guru trifecta?  remember, only three!

diggin the digable planets

i suppose i've always been a bit of an urban hipster, following the beat of my own drummer and all. despite trends, i wore whatever i wanted. i listened to whatever i wanted. that brings me to my point. you probably think of digable planets as one hit wonders. thats if you remember them at all. i think of digable planets as the cool cats that helped to shape my adolescence. digable planets were hipsters. they were poets. they were revolutionaries. they were mellow but with a meaningful message. they were me! butterfly, the unofficial leader of the trio, was effortlessly handsome with chiseled cheekbones and buttery brown skin. ladybug aka mecca provided the quiet yet forceful female voice. although she was gorgeous, it was refreshing that this was downplayed instead of being the sole marketing device. then there was doodlebug who had the demeanor of the cool guy friend you had in college.

dp was not just about being "cool like dat." they rapped about womens' right to choose, racism, self-acceptance and making the most of your circumstances. jazz was instrumental (ha ha, i slay me) in the digable sound. and so was the sixties and seventies for these retro cats. dp's first album "reachin" was the perfect antidote for my revolutionary, angst ridden teenage years (hey, it was the nineties). they were more than just a rap group. butterfly, ladybug and doodlebug were old friends with the same ideals.

how can you incorporate digable style into your life? it's easy:

• embrace plaid
• keep it baggy (at least your pants)
• camouflage and gortex are a must
• run dmc said it best...my adidas-stansmiths and shelltops
• natural hair (whatever your texture) is the bee's knees
• skullies never hurt nobody
• wear a witty revolutionary tee (maybe one that celebrates a legend)
  

and keep it groovy!

dressing with what works best for your shape and coloring in mind is crucial. trends should be tertiary. that is why i absolutely HAD to purchase this dress from hsn. did they have more affordable choices? yes. did they have prettier options? in my opinion, no. but even if they had, it wouldn't have mattered if it was unflattering to my curves or in a color that didn't work for me. this peplum design works wonders for me, accentuating my high waist and hourglass shape. the red is perfect for my complexion. in addition, this outfit matches my personal style and i know that i can accessorize it perfectly. can't wait for it to show up!

we wear short shorts

this is the look of the summer for me. loose fitting short shorts in pretty prints. i found a blue with white polka dot short at h&m for $17 bucks. i also ordered some easy, breezy rompers from f21. the look is just so blazee blah cool, you know. comfortable and classy. pair it with a round toe 4inch heel or a pair of laidback flats. wear it with a cutesy blouse or a tank top. if you're the daring type, pair it with another pattern for the look du jour. anyway you do it, chances are you won't go wrong.

i know that you recall our conversation the other day about animal prints and how to wear them well. guess what, passionistas, i found a splendid little item that meets the criteria. check out this faux leopard jacket from forever 21. oh, this will def. embellish any ensemble you choose to shimmy into. imagine this jacket, a white tee, a lite skinny denim jean and some hot heels (or even sneaks). totally awesome dude {in my bill & ted's excellent adventure voice}!!! too cute. bottom line: invest in this jacket for a better life. you heard it here first.

Scent of a Woman

this blog is usually about how to look good. however, whats the point of looking good, if you don't smell good? you know jenna p. has got the hook up. if you like freesia, hyacinth and jasmine, then this may be the perfect scent for you. this is, of course, from Gwen Stefani's line. she has some sweeter scents in her harajuku girls line you may also enjoy. i am not a fan of the alcohol-y scent when you first spray perfume on. if you have that problem, try the solid perfumes.

another find that is simply irresistable is Victoria's Secret Soft Embrace in Shea Butter. delicious!!! i use this ALL the time. if i take ten steps, i re-up. it just makes me so happy (and makes me smell so tasty).
