we've finally crowned a new posh brown muse of the moment and it's......solange "new auntie" knowles.  lately, ms. sol-angel has been rocking some fierce, bold and unapologetic looks.  her eclectic style has been turning heads of many a fashion folk (like lucky magazine for one) and those trendsetters on the street.  what i find most endearing is that she is so past looking sexy and much rather be original.  that is rare for someone at that tender age (even though she IS a mommy).  so kudos to the found her voice and style outside of her sister's huge shadow.

i spent quite a few hours yesterday watching the oscars and the red carpet (while simultaneously watching the knicks defeat the heat).  fashionwise, i thought most everyone did a great job.  above are a few that were my favorites.  i really loved ann in the sexy, fitted tuxedo.  wasn't that gorgeous?!  just a glam night............besos jenna pearle*

dressed to impress in 2010

the second half of the new year brought on some stylish passionistas.  2010 certainly kept things interesting.  but if i had to narrow it down to who was the most consistently fashionable stunner all year, i would have to say blake lively and olivia palermo deserve that pink pearle. both lovely ladies kept it fun, fresh and classy. 
for blake, she took risks that paid off with her style.  like her fabulously styled character, serena, blake didn't take herself too seriously.  results: gorgeous!
to be honest, i don't know much about olivia palermo.  i have never seen an episode of her show, the city.  all i know is that everytime i come across this beauty on the internet, in the magazines or red carpets, she appears flawless.  unlike lively, palermo tends to stick to the classics done in a modern way.  i rarely ever see her falter, fashionwise. 
both of these young women are an inspiration.

introducing gala darling

last month on my birthday, i attended a blogger's conference.  i had signed up weeks before and couldn't wait for the day to arrive.  like many things in life, it turned out to be a whole lot less than what i had built up in my mind.  this was THE top bloggers brought to discuss what made them so successful.  unfortunately, most didn't seem to have an answer.  what was worse is that many were inarticulate as well.  i went in thinking i was going to learn about what more i could do to improve passionista place and received plenty of cliches like "be true to yourself", "be patient" and "let it grow organically."  if i heard the word organic one more time............i will say it was still a good experience (there were a few bloggers with relevant information) and i met a great friend.  more importantly, i was introduced to the phenomenal gala darling.
actually, i had stumbled on to gala's website/blog earlier that summer and was pretty impressed by what i saw there.  in person, however, she was even more magnificent (especially compared to some of the other speakers).  adorned in sequins, pink and skulls, ms. darling served up wisdom, humor and style.  after the conference, i was eager to hear more.  this is what i found.  like me, gala is the beacon of self love and acceptance.  she has no problem being different and in fact relishes it.  simply put, gala is darling!  that's why i had no problem plucking down twelve bucks to buy chapters of her informative book that  she sells as podcasts.  honestly, i'm addicted.  i've listened to four different chapters already and highly recommend them.  you'll love it!  more importantly, you will probably learn great lessons.  if you don't believe how unbelievable gala darling truly is, don't take my word.  go see for yourself here at galadarling...look for the book here at  love & sequins.

kudos to lady gaga for standing up and going out of her way to speak out on the issues that are important to her. the issue that she was vocal about today was supporting the repeal of the ridiculous don't ask, don't tell policy in the military. in the last couple of days, she has brought a lot of attention to this problem. another reason to be goo goo for gaga...

queen of minimalism

filmaker sofia copola has great taste and a great eye. i love that she keeps her style basic and chic but can totally dial up the frou frou for her films like marie antionette. the images she creates in her movies are beautiful and memorable. one of my favorites from her is "the virgin suicides." and she seems to be a fan of kirsten dunst, just like me. so, cheers to the queen of mimimalism...

i think that nicki minaj cleaned up quite well in her actual outfit (versus the performance costume) for the vmas. her body type looks fantastic in a monochromatic pant onesie. even the pink wig is an asset in a simple sharp bob. and without the crazy mugs, her natural beauty somehow shines through. good look, nicki!

allure of lauryn

lauryn hill was my hero when i was in high school. i'm sure i'm not alone in this. for me, she represented a beauty that wasn't recognized much up to that point. mahogany brown skin, african features, natural hair...this was NOT the beauty norm! yet, l-boog's beauty was undeniable. to top it all off, she was intelligent, talented and outspoken. aren't all these attributes the exact makings of a hero? i don't know what her future plans will include but i think she certainly deserves to be celebrated for what she gave me, what she gave us.

one of those gifts she graced us with was style. ecclectic, afrocentric, urban and all around chic, ms. hill rarely disappointed us in her heyday. it was quite influential to my wardrobe during my college life. i'm keeping my fingers crossed that one day soon she'll be back on the scene serving up provoking poetry with a side of sassy style.
