golden globe review...if we must

i'm a bit over the golden globes already. however, i sorta promised i would reflect on it and i always (almost) keep my promises. i try, anyway...so here we go. these are the highlights, in terms of fashion, for me at the golden globes. there were a few i liked at first glance but upon later inspection realized...not so much (kate hudson, marion cottilliard sp?). there were others that i was not so sure about but realized i loved (chloe s. and christina hendricks). and thats really all i have to say about that (in my forest, forest gump voice).

angel in a blue dress...golden globes

i think i'll be doing a post about the golden globes soon. honestly, i'm watching the jets game right now. however, i came across this image of ginnifer goodwin and was delighted. i've been a fan of hers for quite some time. tonite, i believe, she has outdone herself. this pixie cut she's been sporting lately looks gorgeous and compliments that beautiful blue dress perfectly. even her makeup looks flawless (in the rain, i might add). forget golden globe; i'm awarding the pink pearl to this angel in a blue dress.

i am extremely overwhelmed by the impressive outpouring of compassion and generosity the world has displayed since the earthquake disaster in Haiti. it seems almost everyone is willing to give all they can to help. one particular person i would like to highlight today is a hatian-american young woman by the name of numa. i had been meaning to share her and her love of gloves with you at some point. however, this tragedy has pushed this to sooner rather than later. numa, of course, loves her homeland and is doing plenty to help. she also has family members that haven't been heard from so far. hopefully, that will be successfully resolved soon. but, what i wanted to share with you is her $20 "I Glove Haiti" t-shirts that are not only cute but for a great cause. numa promises that 100% of the proceeds will go towards efforts to help the haitian plight. check out her site at missnuma.com. buy a shirt if you can; at the very least, become a fan on facebook and spread the word.

hope for haiti

posting about fashion when something more substanstial is taking place just doesn't seem right. therefore, i will forgo new entries today to focus on the horrendous crisis in haiti. i am soooo sorry this happened to this great country. please do what you can to help the victims of this earthquake. here is one option for donating. text the word "YELE" to the number 501501 to give $5 to the Yele Haiti Fund. this is a reputable organization that is led by Wyclef Jean. he has been a hardworking, honest and fantastic humanitarian for Haiti. there is also unicef, redcross, salvation army and habitat for humanity to name a few. do what you can and keep haiti in your prayers and/or hearts. i will be doing the same.

the adorable angela simmons...

here is the unique and cute as a kitten angela simmons. i don't keep up with her and her sister much but from what i have seen of angela, i've concluded that i adore her style and persona. dressed up or down, agela's personality shines through easily. her business sense and clean cut image is a much needed example for our precious lil' ones. so, i present this passionista with a pink pearl (check out my alliteration)!
btw, i'm loving the collage of pics behind her.

epitome of me...personal style

these two pics that i found (blackchicwithstyle on tumblr & fashionbombdaily.com) are the epitome of my personal style. i'm a bit of a risk taker, choosing to blend eclectic with street chic, class and comfort. some days, the emphasis falls more toward the classic or preppy; other days, it leans more toward the urbanista side. for instance, i may rock the bamboo earrings one day and a set of pearls the next or a combination of both at the same time. it is important to identify what your personal style truly is. this can aid you in avoiding unneccessary and foolish purchases that don't fit who you are. also, it will help you in choosing which trends really are nice but not worth you trying (unless you consider yourself a trendy chic). so, how exactly would you describe your personal style, passionista(o)s? inquiring minds would love to know!

a force when we're together

don't you just love the thrill of seeing a well dressed couple?! i'm not referring to those tacky, matching twosomes that make your stomach turn; i'm talking about those love bunnies that exude style that somehow compliment one another. i am lucky to have someone who #1. looks good in everything but #2 has impeccable taste to boot (i like to think this has improved with my assistance). lately, great clothes for men has become much more accessible and affordable. stores like h&m, heritage 1981, urban outfitters, and even old navy have really stepped up their game in the men's department. even men's footwear has diversified. plus, men have also welcomed fashion into their busy lives moreso than they have before, imo. therefore, no matter what your hunny's personal style is, there is plenty for him to play around in. it doesn't take much. so for all you couples out there, take some time and think about what statement your love unit is attempting to make (if both parties are willing).

remember (in fabolous and ne-yo's words) im a movement by myself, but i'm a force when we're together...i'm good all by myself, but honey, you make me better!

fela fever

this is my fela kuti inspiration board/collage. viva nigeria!

it is such an extraordinary experience when you are able to extract inspiration from an unexpected place. such was the case last night after watching the critically acclaimed broadway show Fela (as in Fela Kuti). it is beyond my power to accurately relay what a phenomenal show it was. i will only say that it was stimulating for almost all the senses (including smell). it was thoroughly entertaining...and it was extremely informative. in fact, it made you want to leave Imperial Theatre and go "fight the powers that be." ASAP! and as for the dancing, i admit i was ready to run up there on stage to gyrate and groove right along with the performers. if you don't know about fela's story and music, i encourage you to do so soon. not only was this man fearless, he was just so damn cool. did i mention talented? cuz he definitely is. his style really can't be duplicated but i decided to do a bit of a collage based on the beauty of fela and his Movement Of the People. i hope its able to inspire you to catch the spirit of Fela!

winter wear

feeling warm and looking good are not usually synonomous. however, this girl somehow manages to beat the odds. while i am not usually a fan of the jean short in the winter, this outfit seems to work. i especially love the top knot, huge scarf and aviators. the only thing i might add to make the look complete...a cute winter coat.

jump up

its way too cold to be really thinking about this seriously, but i think this year is going to be the year of the jumpsuit for me. im not talking the cheesy kind that was in style a couple of years ago. i am on the quest for elegant, flattering jumpsuits that give me the simplicity of a dress without the sweetness. while perusing the sites (internet sites, i mean), i came across the perfect one (so far). black (so i can match it with any accessories), ruffled batwing arms...perfection! what do you think?

it don't matter if its black & white...ms. campbell mm mm good!

one of my favorite features of passionista place* is baaack...and in a big way! here is a black and white photo of the always stunning ms. naomi campbell. uncontested beauty, as far as i'm concerned. enjoy!

btw, check out naomi and a buffed michael jackson in the beautiful "keep it in the closet" video...and its all in black n white.

just another day in dakota land- taking it down a notch

this is another entry for the taking it down a notch series. here is the beautiful and talented dakota fanning leaving the gym. i think she looks great and exactly what one should look like after a workout. plus, the glasses are adorable. note to self, you need some glasses in your life (although you can see just fine). to sum up, dakota=cute (even when she's dressed down).

mama knows best...link up

i'm pretty lucky. both of my parents are extremely stylish. it would be basically impossible not to have that passion for fashion in my blood. today, however, i will focus on my mom. i am not being biased when i say, my mom is/was a fox! gorgeous! i've seen the pictures of her in her minis, hot pants and go-go boots (despite the comfortable, Carribean weather) before my time. i can clearly recall observing her during my childhood (eighties baby), doing the wall street shuffle in power skirt suits, beautiful dresses and pretty coats. my mom was a chameleon, winning the reinvention war with madonna (i had no idea what her hair color or length was). she had all the eighties dresses, jumpsuits and colored jeans one could ever imagine. what could be better than that, you ask?! her taking just as much effort to transform me into a style mini maven, as well. yes, i ,too, had the best sweater dresses, skirt suits, denim skirts, bubble gum jeans, pearls and colorful pocketbooks in the whole of p.s whatever it was. and this was brooklyn, so thats saying something. so thank you, mom, for impeccable taste (even if ours is not identical).
speaking of stylish moms, there is a blog dedicated to this exact homage. its called My Mom, The Style Icon and is run by the fabulous Piper Weiss. the concept is people with hot moms send photos of their subjects in their heyday (in one of her finest outfits, of course) and Weiss will publish it. absolutely love it!!! not only does it make you smile, it can also give you some tips on what it takes to be a hot mama. so, check it out: http://momstyleicons.blogspot.com/
i guarantee that (unless you're made of concrete) this blog will make you smile. and, hey, why not participate and send in a pic of your favorite fashion icon/mom?

old school ms. rogers

here is old school kelis in the midst of her 'i hate you so much' days. the expression on her face is pure content but its her hair that gets me. what a thick, gorgeous head of hair she has! the colors, the kinks...oh my!
the bossy one, jenna pearle
ps. i think kelis is running a close second to rih-rih on the amount of exposure received here at passionista place. she deserves it, without question. quintessential passionista material!

happy 2010! resolutions for my revolution

happy new year, everyone! its 2010 (in case you were unaware), and its time for resolutions. i won't bore you with all of mine. instead, i'll edit this to the resolutions that deal specifically with fashion in '10. since i am the founder and editor-in-chief of passionista place*, it is only fitting that i, jenna pearle, get it together fashionwise for the new year, don't you think?

  • incorporate more dresses, skirts and maybe dress pants

  • try and dress as if i'll most likely run into an ex or an enemy everyday

  • experiment with make-up routine, try more false lashes, red lips, blue eyeliner maybe

  • trust your judgement, but not that bitchy inner critic (i call her taylor). shut that chick up!

  • re-evaluate wardrobe every 2-3 weeks and create new outfit options (for all occasions).

  • try a new hairstyle at least once a week

  • go thrifting for one of a kind pieces every once in a while (helps my style and wallet).
  • keep up with cute accessories and hawt shoes.
  • have a boat load of fun!

i have a few goals for passionista place* as well. one i'll share now is my quest for a logo. i can't think of what symbol could best represent what we stand for here at PP. i'll keep brainstorming, though. anyhow, happy new year again. i hope to have a productive and happy decade to come and i hope the same for you.

kisses, jenna pearle
