posh brown styling-indie queen

style profile

client:
elle jacobs

background:
elle is an up and coming actress who has had some success in quite a few indie films (one of which is being honored at the sundance film festival). Originally from the suburbs of Florida, this twenty-two year old now resides in los angeles. elle previously had no real interest in fashion or shopping. instead, she spends her free time listening to undergound retro bands and going to concerts. she is currently dating a drummer from an alternative band. elle is playing with the idea of having her own girl band some day. ms. jacobs is very particular about her image and fears looking like her worst nightmare, a pop tart.

elle is about 5'7, somewhat curvy frame although still fairly slender. she has reddish auburn hair and almost kelly green eyes.

challenge:
elle is looking to create a unique signature look. she is attempting to build her brand and needs the right that will be memorable and flattering. her aim is to garner more publicity (create a buzz) so that she can obtain more roles and hopefully beauty campaigns. elle is also looking to create an accessory line of some sort in the future. upcoming events: paparazzi shots (regular outfit), press junkets for new movie, dress for Indie Spirit Awards.

solution:
posh brown styling will create a signature look based on elle's musical taste and movie roles. retro 60/70's indie queen. dye auburn hair jet black (mahogany brown if black is too much for her) and keep the romantic waves, part down the middle. wardrobe updates: short colorful sheath dresses (fuschias, emerald green, tomato reds ect), strapless dresses. cigarette pants and jeans (highwaisted), cute tops. vintage jewelry (one of a kind pieces), cutesy flats and kitten heels, t-strap mary jane pumps.
outcome:
dressed for success

brooklyn gems

the one and only coney island

pics from bklyn flea

this weekend and last, i've been spending a lot of time in brooklyn. last saturday, the hubby and i ventured out to coney island. this was the first time i had seen it since the major renovations took place. i must say, i was impressed. the make-over was much needed. what really made us happy was the dance party happening on the boardwalk. i couldn't even to begin to describe what i saw. whatever took over, it was quite infectious from toddlers to great grandmas. the message seemed to be "we don't care what you think; we're having FUN!" the most amazing part had to be when that guy from antm (bobby the ninja? you know the one who teaches them how to pose) appeared and had a pose-off with another girl. how random (but phenomenal) is that?!!
the next day was michael jackson's birthday and brooklyn was in the mood to celebrate. i swear brooklyn is the most fashionable place ever...screw milan, paris and the ny fashion district. it gets no better than a outdoor event in bk. the love for mike was overwhelming, as was the crowd. the outfits and hairstyles, of course, were to die for. and the music...was comforting like home. spike lee (and al sharpton) hosted. snoop dogg and warren g made special surprise appearances and brooklyn enjoyed. what a beautiful day!
so yesterday i made a trip to fort greene, brooklyn to shop at the brooklyn flea. this is a hip and happening flea market with the most magnificent spread. fly dresses, funky (in the good way) pumps, unique jewelry, great books, delicious food...you name it (and if its cool), they got it. i copped a great blue blazer with red trim and a bottle top locket monogrammed with my 1st initial. there was so much more i wanted but i promised to not go over $20. both the GAP blazer and charm were ten bucks.
tomorrow, i'm off to the west indian parade (carnival). i know i'll have a great time + pictures to prove it. until then...

kanye tweets...

so, apparently there is a website that takes mr. kanye west's hilarious tweets and uses them as captions for new yorker cartoons. it is hilarious!!! that said, i think if you take most people's tweets to suggest how ridiculous they are, you will succeed. give the guy a break...

a bunch of bananas-rzoe

i know i'm like two decades late with this but...i LOVE rachel zoe. for whatever reasons, (like 1. i don't get the bravo channel and 2. wasn't too sure if i cared for rachel), i never watched the rachel zoe project. however, as it became more clear to me that i was meant for a career in fashion, i thought i should this show out. so, i sauntered over to iTunes and whatdayaknow?, the entire season was a mere 11 bucks. little did i know i would soon be addicted like an addict to meth. soon, i was so completely invested and engrossed. the clothes, the accessories, the events, the crises...love it, love it LOVE IT!!!!! then there is the style of the cast:
  • Brad and his preppy, bow tie adorable outfits.
  • Taylor and her dark, rock n roll attitude to match her dark and perpetually pissy demeanor.
  • and Rachel herself with her boho, retro chic look.

i even look forward to the metro looking rodger and the lovable joey, the make-up artist. quite frankly, everything about this show is....BANANAS! i just wish there were more episodes. oh, how will i get my fix when i'm all caught up on three seasons. OMG, I DIE!

above is a photoshoot with zoe and prominent fashion designers acting out her famous phrase "i die!" too freakin' cute!
