i spent quite a few hours yesterday watching the oscars and the red carpet (while simultaneously watching the knicks defeat the heat). fashionwise, i thought most everyone did a great job. above are a few that were my favorites. i really loved ann in the sexy, fitted tuxedo. wasn't that gorgeous?! just a glam night............besos jenna pearle*
what'chuknow 'bout roy lichtenstein? this guy is one of the talented american artists as well as one of my faves. as you can see from the piece above, pop art is his thing. recently, i watched a segment about him on a cbs morning show. i was thrilled to hear what a happy person he was. none of that tortured soul business. refreshing, isn't it?! besos jenna pearle*
another gorgeous shot of the talented chaka khan. i think this one proves my point about her resemblence to nicki minaj. what do you think? besos jenna pearle*
here are a few looks from rachel roy's collection. these three outfits remind me of what i use to wear to work in my junior high school teacher days...good times! i've been working on a post about the fabulous rachel roy and her talent. keep an eye out for it! hugs and...............besos jenna pearle*
if you've been following me for awhile, then you already know my adoration for gwen stefani. i feel like, style wise, she's my long lost blonde california girl big sister. after getting a glimpse of her latest L.A.M.B line at NYFW, i am even more convinced. this time around, i appreciated her love of ties, blazers, v-neck sweaters among other menswear influences. we almost always have kindred spirits when it comes to patterns (plaids, houndstooth, stripes and polka dots). gwen is such a fashion maverick and i'm so proud that we share such a similar aesthetic; gives me hope.
i understand nicki minaj is attempting to pull of avant garde, over the top looks to fit her big persona. i get it. but, sometimes...well, it just seems like WAY TOO MUCH! i'm sure you've seen her grammy ensemble by now(if not, check it out below). i must say, i was disappointed. nicki has made a conscious choice to veer away from the sex pot hook. i applaud ms. minaj for toning down the sexiness and going past being pretty. we have SO many artists (many not so artistic) who go the sexy, trashy bad girl route. its an easy, sucker way to go (if you ask me). nicki has talent that surpasses her undeniable good looks. that said, i think she has talent that surpasses the gimmicks as well. that is why i was pleasantly surprised to see her attire for her all star performance. it was still wild but not ridiculous. whoever dressed her understood proportions as well as her brand. love the look and i hope to see a few more like it in the midst of the madness.
you know i was definitely tuned in to the NBA All Star 2011 game.i've actually been pretty engrossed the entire season (unlike the last 2-3 years when i begin closer to the playoffs). however, i kept my fashion hat on lastnight, critiquing all of the outfits. as usual, my favorite team, boston celtics, did not disappoint. they were like the ratpack of bball on the "magenta" carpet. another highlight was amare stoudemire. i've been keeping my eye on him and the knicks. dareisay, i may be turning into a knick fan (they were my arch rivals in the 90's when i would take a bullet for the bulls). anyway, great game and congrats to kobe (not a fan) for his 4th all star mvp award. but be afraid; the ratpack is gunning for ya...besos jenna pearle*
so, black history month continues here at passionista place. this week, i'm celebrating the magnificent malcolm x. he is such a hero and inspiration to me. if you couldn't tell, i'm quite the revolutionary rebel and malcolm x is a huge reason why. on this day years ago, malcolm stood up for what he believed in and was shot down. although he is gone, his message and spirit remain extremely relevant. to sum up, I AM MALCOLM X and hopefully, you are, too. besos jenna pearle*
we all know there is little james franco can't take on. next week, our favorite looney villian, franco, will be returning to port charles. yes, he shall returneth to general hospital. can't wait for the crazy! in the meantime...sexy franco above. besos jenna pearle*
adele is back and sounding better than ever...didn't know that was even possible. check out her new album, 21 and her beautiful mug here. besos jenna pearle*
happy valentine's day, lovelies! hope you all are enjoying your loved ones today. wanted to get in a post today and give you my best before the day ended. for those of you who aren't having the best of times, don't worry, its almost over. hugs and.................besos jenna pearle*

nelson mandela was freed on this day in the year 1990. what a historic day! this was a major step, signifying south africa was on its way to equality. today, egyptians reached their goal of ousting the current "president." i'm sure that nation is hoping for positive change. freedom is something you must demand sometimes. best wishes to both african countries and all those willing to stand up for what they believe in. it's a beautiful thing!!!
