twi-hard another day
like a true twi-hard fan, i pre-purchased my tickets for the movie. can't wait to see edward and the crew again. besides the cute love story, i love all the beautiful photo shoots i've come across since twilight (the movies) began. here are a few more i've come across in the last couple of days (courtesy of vogue italia and tumblr). i know kristen stewart doesn't have much range when it comes to facial expressions...but the one face she mastered is gawg-ous! pair that with her rebellious tomboy style and you've got gold. i won't even get started on the guys (besides mentioning edward's smoldering, glittery pale look that could melt any human heart and jacob's topless teenage tirades {swoon}). suffice to say, i'm eagerly awaiting the breaking dawn like a adolescent hormone crazed girl.
twilight archives for ya!

a poem for thought-maya angelou
maya angelou is a legend. her poems were the soundtrack for my rebellious teenage angst. quite frankly, there is little in life that madam angelou hasn't experienced. being a confidante to some of our great civil rights leaders and artists (baldwin, macolm, martin), reciting poems for millions at president clinton's inauguration, having a movie written around your work, breaking rules and records on new york times best sellers list...these are just a few accomplishments. (oh, did i mention that she is the go to person for our resident go to person, oprah?) i rest my case. maya IS a phenomenal woman...and she knows it. read poem for more:
Phenomenal Woman by Maya Angelou
Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.
I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.
Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.
Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

queen of minimalism
filmaker sofia copola has great taste and a great eye. i love that she keeps her style basic and chic but can totally dial up the frou frou for her films like marie antionette. the images she creates in her movies are beautiful and memorable. one of my favorites from her is "the virgin suicides." and she seems to be a fan of kirsten dunst, just like me. so, cheers to the queen of mimimalism...Wednesday, September 15, 2010
purple violets...movie magic

patty wore:
- great accessories. beautiful leather bags in various shades of brown. smart, stylish hats, delicate but distinctive lockets (her signature look).
- stylish shoes. old black converse chucks, chocolate knee high books, trendy and comfy winter boots.
- to die for outfits. beautiful sweaters and blouses in great patterns, textures and colors. tailored pants and flattering tweed pencil skirts.
- gorgeous coats. she wore a beige short pea coat, a belted plaid 3/4 coat and an army green military inspired long coat with silver hardware.
- lovely night time wear from adorable undershirts to cutesy long john shirts.
it helped tremendously that autumn downtown new york was the backdrop for "purple violets." despite the name, the film was filled with rich pumpkin, raisin and chocolatey hues. other characters like ed burns and debra messing have great fashion moments in the film as well. but, selma is the most consistent and impressive. she achieves an effortless chic but laidback look. the look whispers "i'm an artist who puts comfort and creativity ahead of trends." so, add this movie to your netflix queue to enjoy the fantastic fashion choices. you just may learn a few new tricks for your own fall wardrobe.
here are a few scenes from the movie with great style (i snapped them from the tv as i watched, lol).

2010 mtv video awards...just my thoughts, man

- gaga looked great and was so gracious. i am a big fan of her devotion to the "outsiders." some of her outfits were hits (my favorite is pictured above). big winner of the night!
- taylor swift is really working my last nerve. please, PLEASE, stop playing the victim and being so passive agressive. everyone comes across a jerk (sorry kanye) every once in a while. kanye did you a HUGE favor by distinguishing you from the rest of the pop/country blonde singers out there. write him a thank you note instead of a self-righteous boring song. next!
- drake finally put on a show in his performance. i've seem him at some concerts and wasn't impressed with his boring outfits and simple standing or walking around the stage. great improvement, sir. keep it up!
- rihanna put a different spin on her usual look. her different spin was very similar to madonna's like a virgin perfomance in the 80's. (was that the point?) her hair and outfit had a very unfinished look to it. if that was the goal then it was successful.
- katy perry, rihanna and nicki minaj look like they have a great time and i want to fill out an application to join in.
- never heard of florence but i LOVED the perfomance and the song.
- jared leto looks just as sexy as he did on "my so-called life" these days. besides lady gaga and eminem, he's the only one i even recall getting an award.
- while we're on the topic, why did eminem get SO many awards??? i don't get it!
- i adore sofia vergara (gorgeous and hilarious).
- eva the diva (marcille) is so gorgeous here. i feel the same about ashley greene. best dressed of the night, along with victoria justice (no clue who she is).
- kanye killed it! thats what i would like to say but i found his performance mildly entertaining. maybe my hopes were too high. the red ensemble was quite impressive, however.
i think that's all...gone til' september xoxo jenna pearle*
