mentor #1: j'adore jessie adore

hola, lovelies.  so a couple of days ago, i was mentioned how i was taking on some fashion mentors this year.  i told you how i wanted these individuals to #1 keep my routine stress free #2 further develop my personal style and #3 maintain my "dowhatchalike" and "idgaf" lifestyle.  that was the plan.  therefore, it's time to reveal my first style maven mentor: jessie adore.  now,i've been meaning to tell you about this lovely lady for quite some time.  i've probably been stalking her blog for close to two years because i so "adore" her lifestyle (you'll see her at the top of my blogroll).  she's so cute, her hair is cute, her clothes are cute, her apartment is cute, her friends are cute.  who wouldn't want that?!  plus, she's all short and curvy (so, a gal like me can identify).
but what i love most about her is that nothing seems forced.  nothing that she wears or does seems to be because she thinks that's what's hot (as paris would say).  i believe this is just her genuine individual style.  this is the case whether she's dolled up in a dress fit for a 40's siren  or in her jeans at the park.
so, it is official...jessie will guide me through 2012 and remind me that i can do as i please. i, too, can have a fabulous, fashionable life, if i so choose.  it was written...
stay tuned for my next two fashion fairy godmentors...

fair isle flair

fair isle sweaters...there was a time when i use to despise them.  i marveled at how anyone could possibly think this was fashionable.  but then, well, it got cold.  and every once in a blue moon, i'd wear one of the sweaters in this fair isle print (but under my coat, of course).  for some unknown reason, i eventually grew an appreciation for the look.  it's certainly hasn't become a winter staple but now, one of those cozy pieces that let me know winter is here to stay.
by the way, you know who did make the fair isle look a staple in her winter wardrobe?  angela chase ( you know, from my so called life).  she spent countless dreary pittsburgh days pulling her decorated sweater sleeves over her pale little hands, fretting about jordan catalano acknowledging her presence.  that fact alone make fair isle cooler than a suburban pittsburgh winter.  here are a few celebs who have also added the look to their repertoire...

it must be you're lucky day because i have one of these boldly printed sweaters for sale at the posh brown boutique.

leopard love

i don't know if you've been in the market for a leopard print coat but i found one you may like.  here is one that is the perfect length with a somewhat cinched waist and small (but saturated) pattern.  and, its barely over a hundred at victoria's secret.  what do you think?

snow day

well, in my neck of the woods (nyc), it is certainly looking like a winter wonderland.  if snow were a hot commodity, the economy would be rejuvenated.  anyhoo, its a good day for hot cocoa, internet browsing, snuggling and movies.  but, if you must go out, here is some inspiration for your winter wardrobe.  not my suggestion, just some inspiration.  enjoy!  besos jenna pearle*

here is a bit of inspiration for the fellas who may be in need of a classy winter coat.  the right coat on a man can really set the tone for his whole persona.  are you trying to present yourself as someone who's dashing or cool or maybe laidback? the right coat can do the trick.  as for the ladies, i spoke about what you should consider when purchasing your winter coat here.  tis the season, or it will be pretty soon.

good times

just got back from florida yesterday (now last week). what a fantastic three week experience! i even got to take in the beloved city of miami on valentine's day. fashionwise, i really can't complain. we (me and the hubby) found some great buys. scored a pair of the most delightful, feminine yet witty gloves. they remind me of michael jackson for some reason. got a great turquoise headband (you know the one with the 1920's feather attachment) and some gold, silver and black bangles. i was lucky enough to acquire some vintage looking eggplant heels. i think i already mentioned the navy blue faux bomber jacket from charlotte russe. while looking for places to see and things to do, we hit the jackpot when we found miromar lakes outlet mall! the hubby bought a beautiful Tommy Hilfiger coat in plaid red and black. the original price was $315 but he only paid 35 bucks. can you believe it?! talk about a great deal! i got two pairs of the cutest pumas at 20 dollars a pop and the warmest, coziest (did i mention cutest) slippers i've ever had at easy spirit. oh, can't forget about the versatile black boyfriend blazer at target. it was perfect for those not so warm days in the sunshine state.

needless to say, the trip based on wardrobe enhancement alone was an astounding success. this new york know it all loves her some florida...

(pics of the heels from tj maxx are coming soon...bought so much stuff, i had to ship some things. you know, luggage fees and all)

bey and jay...taking it down a notch

awwww!!! look at the happy couple...as you can see, this is a pic of bey and jay walking hand in hand. don't know why this pic makes me happy. perhaps, its because you rarely see this side of the couple. also, i think we both got hitched around the same time. anyhoo, enjoy the pic of these two taking it down a notch and enjoying each other's company.

epitome of me...personal style

these two pics that i found (blackchicwithstyle on tumblr & fashionbombdaily.com) are the epitome of my personal style. i'm a bit of a risk taker, choosing to blend eclectic with street chic, class and comfort. some days, the emphasis falls more toward the classic or preppy; other days, it leans more toward the urbanista side. for instance, i may rock the bamboo earrings one day and a set of pearls the next or a combination of both at the same time. it is important to identify what your personal style truly is. this can aid you in avoiding unneccessary and foolish purchases that don't fit who you are. also, it will help you in choosing which trends really are nice but not worth you trying (unless you consider yourself a trendy chic). so, how exactly would you describe your personal style, passionista(o)s? inquiring minds would love to know!

winter wear

feeling warm and looking good are not usually synonomous. however, this girl somehow manages to beat the odds. while i am not usually a fan of the jean short in the winter, this outfit seems to work. i especially love the top knot, huge scarf and aviators. the only thing i might add to make the look complete...a cute winter coat.
