video voyeur- happy bday, sade edition

it has come to my attention that sade adu was born on this day over half a century ago.  therefore, we must celebrate and acknowledge here at the posh brown experience.  when it comes to sticking to a signature style that works for you, no one does it better than this queen.  and that applies fashionwise and musically.  take some time and enjoy her video "baby's father" from the soldier of love album.  i promise you it's breathtakingly beautiful.  but what else is new when it comes to ms. adu?  (oh yeah, that rhymed!)

video voyeur: rihanna rude gal edition

well, i was forced to take a break from the video voyeur feature because i no longer knew how to embed or export the videos.  now that i've figured it out, i feel so silly.  its so simple! duh, jenna.  anyway, iguess i'll double up on the videos to make up for lost time again.
here are two faves from rihanna: rude boy and man down.  i really like rihanna and her voice when she's sticking to her west indian roots.  both of these videos have a strong island presence as well as beautiful cinematography.  and of course, ri ri looks gorge in each one.  there was a lot of hoop-lah made over man down from concerned parents.  i think her music is no longer meant for kiddies since its so explicitly sexual.  however, at least this song/video addressed an important topic kids should be aware of.  anywhoo, enjoy the lovely vids.

video voyeur-Raphael Saadiq - Good Man

in love with the seventies retro vibe of this video.  the style  and ambiance is just to die for.  yaya (of america's next top model fame) brings the crazy beauty quite well.  and the song itself just takes you back.  very raphael!  the only thing is...beware!  when yaya hits her head on the bathroom sink...well, its just too difficult for me to watch.  if you are squeamish like me, LOOK AWAY(around the 1:45 mark)!

video voyeur- madonna's bedtime stories

since i haven't given you a video voyeur fix in a few weeks, i decided on a double feature today to make up for lost time.  the artist is the mega icon madonna ciccone.  both of these videos are during a softer, curvier and calmer point in her life.  she ran back and forth between the classy and durrty looks.  besides the classic eighties hits, this bedtime stories album had some of my absolute favorite madonna songs.  here are two cuts i especially enjoyed: 'secret' and 'take a bow.'  and talk about some beautiful visuals!!!  clear and breathtaking, madonna videos could do no wrong whether it be black and white or color.
bullfighting in spain, veils, red lips, forbidden passion...you know all of these elements are right up my alley ('take a bow').  and as for 'secret', voluptuous curves, nose rings, retro hood shots, fur coats and platinum blonde coifs and seedy lounges...whats not to love?!  keep in mind, this is around the time rumors of a pregnant madonna began to swarm.  is she or isn't she?  she wasn't but classic madonna couldn't help but feed the flames (hence the end of the video).  anyhow, both videos were madge at her finest.  if i had to choose one more video from that era and album, it would be 'human nature' where madonna donned a dominatrix suit and cornrows and proceeded to break out of the boxes society kept trying to put her in.  ahhh!  the good ol' days...................................besos jenna pearle*

gwen galore-video voyeur

someone who always comes through with killer visually stimulating videos is the talented gwen stefani (as well as the whole no doubt crew).  so, i thought i'd come back to the queen of style for video voyeur this week.  of course, i couldn't narrow it down to one so i chose a trifecta of stefani. all three are colorful and entertaining and have that gwen pananche she's now known for.

video voyeur - Turn Your Lights Down Low-bob marley & lauryn hill

i've been slacking off a lot with the video voyeur feature.  i apologize but maybe today's choice will make up for it.  this is "turn the lights down low" by lauryn hill and bob marley with julian marley starring as the love interest (in the video and reality).  i don't know about you but this song makes me feel relaxed and romantic.  the tune is so mellow and passionate, how could one NOT love it?  the same goes for the visuals.  lauryn hill looks stunning, her make up, hair and wardrobe enhancing the soft and free mood.  then there is the lush scenery that makes you want to leave all the hustle and bustle of home to live in the calm caribbean. don't forget the most important factor in the success of this song: the king bob marley.  if bob wanted to give me some good love, i'd surely take him up on it.  enjoy the show!!

Beyoncé's Why Don't You Love Me-video voyeur

so, i promised you guys a new regular feature before my unexpected hiatus.  that was the video voyeur posts every week that celebrates the aesthetics and overall awsomeness of a great music video.  this week, i'm shining the spotlight on beyonce knowles *as if she needs it*.  this diva has a slew of phenomenal videos under her cinched in belt but today we're discussing "why don't you love me?"  really, there is nothing here not to love.  so, here are a few reasons why i Do love beyonce and this video:

  •  the retro ambience is absolutely impressive
  • beyonce (and those lovely curves) look amazing in that make up, hair and costumes
  • not usually a fan of her (ahem) acting skills BUT here she demonstrates her desperation and frustration quite well
  • the cocky cheekiness thatS become typical of bey(dusting her numerous grammys on the mantle)
  • a catchy song that you can't help but like
conclusion:  ms. bey is a bad mama jama!

video voyeur...bag lady

you may recall our new segment where once a week we celebrate music videos that are visually and musically stimulating.  erykah badu's "bag lady" is the choice of the week.  this is in honor of the tyler perry's "for colored girls" movie hitting theatres today. i am far from perry's biggest fan.  his work is usually not my style and borderline offensive.  safe to say, his work often rubs me the wrong way.  however, i am able to keep an open mind and hope for the best with the film.  the sheer talent and sophistication of the leading ladies and gentlemen starring in this movie radiates positivity.  erykah took on this piece of heavy piece of literature (shange's 'for colored girls who have considered suicide when the rainbow isn't enuff')first with her "bag lady" video before perry dreamed of tackling this.  its one of my favorites for various reasons.  the color scheme and costumes are mesmerizing.  but what is most poignant is the theme.  we all have issues, we all have baggage we must acknowledge and overcome.  let me know your thoughts on this video in the comments.  isn't she fierce?  do you have any videos to suggest for video voyeur?

Michael Jackson, Keep It In The Closet...video voyeur

i came across a post about the top top 15 stylish music videos on coco and creme. and in true carrie bradshaw style, it got me to thinking...what beautiful music videos took my breath away over the years?  so, i've decided to share some selections i found visually stimulating once a week.  at the beginning of my blog, i shared with you 16 reasons why i love cool by gwen stefani.  this time, i chose one of my favorite michael jackson songs/videos "keep it in the closet" starring the one and only stunner, naomi campbell.  michael beefed up for this one, showing off his muscular tone in that wifebeater and black jeans.  he pulled back his signature curls into a ponytail and proceeded to give us sexy mike.  the sepia coloring give both them and the scenery a sensual aura.  there is really nothing to dislike about this art, as far as i'm concerned.  as usual, these talents do a superb job.

Gwen Stefani's Cool

i absolutely adore gwen stefani. creative, stylish, goal-oriented, beautiful and yet...somehow vulnerable. she has a quality that makes her accessible to all. her videos (with and without no doubt) personify everything i've described. one of my favorites is the gorgeous "cool" video off of her L.A.M.B album. and here are sixteen reasons why i love it...

1. setting for video is Italy- a place full of beautiful scenery, scrumptious cuisine and great taste.

2. mix match patterns done perfectly

3. the flirty leopard print cardigan

4. pencil and tulip skirts w/ fierce heels

5. gwen rocks the ultra red retro lipstick

6. who doesn't love the pompadoo ponytail- esp on bleach blonde hair

7. delicate jewelry offsets the other bold choices for accessories

8. big belts to cinch in waist and illuminate curves

9. lady like gloves add an extra sip of glamour

10. polka dots! always loved them...always will

11. short shorts/tall heels (with a demure, conservative shirt, of course)

12. thick cat-like black eyeliner is a favorite look of mine

13. sippin' coffee w/ old friends (doesn't get any better than that

14. classy retro bathing suits (saw plenty this summer @ modcloth)

15. breezy summer dresses

16. gwen, herself. she's cool
