check them out for more foxy
i know nicki minaj has been getting a lot of press lately (passionista place included) but ms. foxy brown has always been one of my favorite emcees (notice i didn't say female). obviously she's drop dead gorgeous but beneath all that is raw talent (both are things she rarely gets credit for). perhaps (a la naomi) she can get a bit...crazy. but who among us doesn't have flaws? anyway, this quote is truly why i love her. it was clear to me that foxy (aka inga marchand) suffered from a bit of low self esteem in the beginning of her career. like many other chocolate girls, she was made to feel she wasn't enough. unlike (allegedly) many other female rappers and entertainment types in general, foxy seemed to overcome her insecurities. instead of running to the nearest plastic surgeon, she remained the lil foxy we always knew and loved. for that and the quote above, i applaud her.
these photos both evoke a sense of time that was important to fashion. the first one is a pic of a couple of kardashians with the boyfriend, scott. it appears to be at a fashion show but somehow it drips of old hollywood glamour. they certainly look hot. the other image is beautiful, too. blake lively reminds me of a sexy seventies bombshell after a fun night out. loves it!!!
i got rid of my cable but because i love you so, i went visiting just so that i could watch and report back. unfortunately, i wasn't all that impressed. but here are a few thoughts as well as a few highligt images...
gaga looked great and was so gracious. i am a big fan of her devotion to the "outsiders." some of her outfits were hits (my favorite is pictured above). big winner of the night!
taylor swift is really working my last nerve. please, PLEASE, stop playing the victim and being so passive agressive. everyone comes across a jerk (sorry kanye) every once in a while. kanye did you a HUGE favor by distinguishing you from the rest of the pop/country blonde singers out there. write him a thank you note instead of a self-righteous boring song. next!
drake finally put on a show in his performance. i've seem him at some concerts and wasn't impressed with his boring outfits and simple standing or walking around the stage. great improvement, sir. keep it up!
rihanna put a different spin on her usual look. her different spin was very similar to madonna's like a virgin perfomance in the 80's. (was that the point?) her hair and outfit had a very unfinished look to it. if that was the goal then it was successful.
katy perry, rihanna and nicki minaj look like they have a great time and i want to fill out an application to join in.
never heard of florence but i LOVED the perfomance and the song.
jared leto looks just as sexy as he did on "my so-called life" these days. besides lady gaga and eminem, he's the only one i even recall getting an award.
while we're on the topic, why did eminem get SO many awards??? i don't get it!
i adore sofia vergara (gorgeous and hilarious).
eva the diva (marcille) is so gorgeous here. i feel the same about ashley greene. best dressed of the night, along with victoria justice (no clue who she is).
kanye killed it! thats what i would like to say but i found his performance mildly entertaining. maybe my hopes were too high. the red ensemble was quite impressive, however.
i think that's all...gone til' september xoxo jenna pearle*
this weekend and last, i've been spending a lot of time in brooklyn. last saturday, the hubby and i ventured out to coney island. this was the first time i had seen it since the major renovations took place. i must say, i was impressed. the make-over was much needed. what really made us happy was the dance party happening on the boardwalk. i couldn't even to begin to describe what i saw. whatever took over, it was quite infectious from toddlers to great grandmas. the message seemed to be "we don't care what you think; we're having FUN!" the most amazing part had to be when that guy from antm (bobby the ninja? you know the one who teaches them how to pose) appeared and had a pose-off with another girl. how random (but phenomenal) is that?!! the next day was michael jackson's birthday and brooklyn was in the mood to celebrate. i swear brooklyn is the most fashionable place ever...screw milan, paris and the ny fashion district. it gets no better than a outdoor event in bk. the love for mike was overwhelming, as was the crowd. the outfits and hairstyles, of course, were to die for. and the music...was comforting like home. spike lee (and al sharpton) hosted. snoop dogg and warren g made special surprise appearances and brooklyn enjoyed. what a beautiful day!
so yesterday i made a trip to fort greene, brooklyn to shop at the brooklyn flea. this is a hip and happening flea market with the most magnificent spread. fly dresses, funky (in the good way) pumps, unique jewelry, great books, delicious food...you name it (and if its cool), they got it. i copped a great blue blazer with red trim and a bottle top locket monogrammed with my 1st initial. there was so much more i wanted but i promised to not go over $20. both the GAP blazer and charm were ten bucks.
tomorrow, i'm off to the west indian parade (carnival). i know i'll have a great time + pictures to prove it. until then...
red lipstick...the most elusive make-up trick for a girl...especially one of a darker persuasion. lately, i've found myself really digging this look for two reasons. #1. its a timeless yet sexy look. #2. i'm a rebel and i don't like being told what i can and cannot wear. so, of course, i sauntered into MAC in search of the perfect shade for me. when i approached an available make-up diva and informed her of my quest, she gave me a look and sigh that said "for you (as in a mocha vixen such as myself)? not gonna happen." then she sent me to look at some extremely watered down shade (almost magenta). instead, after trying on a zillion shades of red on my wrist, i decided to be bold and choose the MAC Red. if it needed toning down, i had a few shades at home that could do the trick. so this summer, i am all about the jet black sharp eye and red lip. i may even attempt it during the day.how ya like me now?!!!
by the way, i was not able to find many pics of very dark women with the bold red lip at the time of this post. however, as soon as i do, i shall post evidence.
